A family celebration: “The Real Education of TJ Crowley” captured two of the most coveted award categories at the Kansas Authors Convention, including Best Book Design and Book of the Year for 2019. For Overstake, winning not one but two awards was another milestone achievement for his latest young adult historical novel, and for Grain Valley Publishing Company, owned and operated by the author and his wife, Claire, pictured at right. Mother-in-law Betty Brewer, pictured at left, was an advance beta reader for the projects.

High school sweethearts Grant Overstake and Claire Brewer both drove T-Birds to school. Grant’s was a 1962 model, as shown. Claire’s was a ‘64. They never thought to put the cars together in a photo, so they could go viral on social media fifty years later. The cars are long gone, but their love and friendship power on. Grant and Claire are the love story behind Grain Valley Publishing Company.
