Aspiring pole vaulter Katie Wright and her mom Jennifer savored their travel time by listening to ‘Maggie Vaults Over the Moon’ on audio book.

There’s a 40-minute, 31-mile stretch of Kentucky highway between Katie Wright’s home in Prospect and her pole-vault practices at Fuzion Athletics in Shelbyville, but the round trips were over waaay too soon for Katie and her mom Jennifer as they listened to Tavia Gilbert perform their favorite story on audio book, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.

Maggie Vaults Over the Moon by Grant Overstake is the story of a gritty Kansas farm girl, Maggie Steele, who overcomes tragedy and soars to new heights as a pole-vaulter.

The story is brought to life by Tavia Gilbert, who has voiced more than 300 titles, garnering the industry’s highest honors, including six Audie nominations and an assortment of Earphones Awards.

Maggie Readers Prep for ‘Battle of the Books’

After months and months of intense reading, the brainy bookworms from Church of the Holy Spirit School are prepped and ready for the Battle of the Books competition in the Wichita Diocese Catholic Schools.

Super Maggie fan Lexi Hays is prepped and ready for the Battle of the Books.

The annual reading contest for 5th and 6th graders begins this week in the diocese, which includes 25 elementary schools in south central Kansas.

The Jeopardy-like team competition will test their knowledge of this year’s titles, including Maggie Vaults Over the Moon by Wichita author Grant Overstake.

Overstake met with youngsters from Church of the Holy Spirit School to help them prepare for competition, and to share a little about the process of writing a novel.

“There’s no way to know in advance what questions they’ll be asked, so we spent time reviewing the characters, setting, plot, and themes,” he said, adding, “It was inspiring to see how excited they are about reading. This is a great program.”

Maggie’s blog is a new affiliate site of the USA Track & Field (USATF) online store, which is a pretty big deal for friends and followers of storybook heroine, Maggie Steele.

USATFLOGOAFFILIATESITE2USATF is is the national governing body for track and field in the United States. Its online store offers a wide selection of official  merchandise such as bags, team gear, and performance apparel.

Proceeds go directly toward funding a variety of USATF programs and initiatives, ranging from youth activities to elite athlete development and support of Team USA.

‘Maggie’ Celebrates Her Vault into Kansas History

Today is Kansas Day, marking the admission of Kansas as the 34th state in the Union, on January 29, 1861.

The teen sports novel has been added to the Wulfmeyer Special Collections section of the Wichita Public Library.

The Wulfmeyer Special Collection contains books about Kansas pioneers and cowboys and others who shaped the bold history of the Sunflower State. The collection also includes the inspiring story of Maggie Steele, the gutsy farm girl from fictional Grain Valley, Kansas, who overcomes tragedy and soars to new heights through the daring sport of pole-vaulting.
