Maggie Cheers Athletes to State Meet Gold

See_you_over_the_moonThousands athletes in the Sunflower State are on a quest to compete in the 2014 Kansas State Track and Field Championships, to be held May 30-31 at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium.

Cheering them on is storybook track star Maggie Steele, a gutsy farm girl from Grain Valley, Kan.

‘Maggie Vaults Over the Moon’ captures a farm girl’s quest to qualify for the Kansas Track and Field Championships. With more than 3,000 athletes and 20,000 spectators, it is the largest track meet.

The high school heroine’s rise over tragedy and an ever-rising pole-vault crossbar is captured in the novel,  Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.


Grant Overstake’s novel earned praise from track historian Carol Swenson.

According to author Grant Overstake, the story is a tribute to the thousands of real-life Kansas athletes striving to qualify for the State Meet, as they have for more than 100 years.

“Maggie Steele represents every Kansas high school athlete who is doing all they can every day to make it to State in any sport,” Overstake said. “It will inspire anyone who dreams of becoming a champion.” Continue reading
