‘Maggie’ Author to Present Student Assemblies and Workshops through Arts Partners Program

Grant Overstake is a new Teaching Artist for Arts Partners of Wichita. He will present student assemblies and writing workshops in Wichita and surrounding areas.

Grant Overstake, author of the young adult novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, has joined Arts Partners of Wichita.

ArtsPartnersLogoAs a Teaching Artist, he will present assemblies and writing workshops for students from 4th grade through high school in Wichita and surrounding areas.

Arts Partners of Wichita is affiliated with the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning network. Its goal is to inspire creativity and learning by using the arts to enhance the classroom experience for students.

“I’m honored to be invited to join Arts Partners,” Overstake said. “It’s a privilege to be included on the list of the truly amazing local artists who devote their time and talents to help educate and inspire the next generation of creative thinkers.”

A Wichita native, Overstake attended Buckner Elementary, Brooks Jr. High, and Heights High School. His novel can be found on library shelves in public schools in the district as well as in local parochial schools. Continue reading

It’s been a banner year at Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz, where this group of campers received outstanding instruction and earned Maggie Awards. FORT WORTH, TEXAS —  It’s been a banner year at Texas Pole Vault at EliteSportz, home of Desiree Freier, who became the greatest teen vaulter in US history.

Recently, a group of campers received outstanding instruction at the club and were awarded copies of the novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon. The club earned a Maggie banner for its role as a major sponsor for the campaign to help narrator Tavia Gilbert perform and produce the story on audiobook.

Spiritual, Athletic Teen Praises Uplifting Maggie

Maggie Vaults Over the Moon has earned praise from athletes and country folk for its realistic depictions of the sport of pole-vaulting, and farm life. Now an athletic and spiritually aware teenage reviewer is praising the story for its deeper message.

UnityLeadersMagLogoWithMaggieHolly Smith’s review appears in the latest issue of Unity Leaders Magazine, the international publication of Unity Worldwide Ministries. Smith, a high school senior, is a cross-country runner and a leader in the International Youth of Unity program.

In reading the novel Smith writes, “I gained a greater appreciation for myself, and realized that I can do anything, no matter in what circumstance I might find myself. [Author Grant] Overstake gives the reader a personal sense of empowerment through all the struggles Maggie goes through, since they are relatable to everyday life.”

River Vault Features All-American Maggie

Maggie will join the festivities at the 5th Annual River Vault in La Crosse, Wis.

‘Maggie Vaults Over the Moon’ will be presented to 20 winners at the 5th Annual River Vault.

Fireworks will be flying high this Friday, the 4th of July, and so will pole-vaulters at the 5th Annual River Vault competition in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Vaulters answered Uncle Sam’s call to River Vault!

Joining in the patriotic celebration will be All-American Maggie Steele, storybook heroine of the inspiring novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.

The event will be held from 11 am until 6 pm at Riverside Park on the bank of the Mississippi River.

“Maggie has been all over the country and the world, but she’s never been to Wisconsin, which is a hotbed for pole-vaulting up north,” said author Grant Overstake. “Riverside Park is one of the most beautiful places in the world to pole-vault. And, it being July 4th, it will be an unforgettable experience!”

 Cheering them on were more than 25,000 fans at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium, including storybook State Champion, Maggie Steele, the gutsy pole-vaulting farm girl from Grain Valley, Kan.

To celebrate, autographed copies of the track and field novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, are on sale at Wichita’s premier independent bookstore, Watermark Books and Cafe, located at 4701 East Douglas (corner of Douglas and Oliver).

In addition, we’re having a drawing for a giant-sized Maggie Vaults Over the Moon cover poster!

The bookstore is open from 8 am to 8 pm weekdays and from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday. The drawing will be held after the close of business this Saturday, June 7th.
