Thousands athletes in the Sunflower State are on a quest to compete in the 2014 Kansas State Track and Field Championships, to be held May 30-31 at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium.
Cheering them on is storybook track star Maggie Steele, a gutsy farm girl from Grain Valley, Kan.
The high school heroine’s rise over tragedy and an ever-rising pole-vault crossbar is captured in the novel, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.
According to author Grant Overstake, the story is a tribute to the thousands of real-life Kansas athletes striving to qualify for the State Meet, as they have for more than 100 years.
“Maggie Steele represents every Kansas high school athlete who is doing all they can every day to make it to State in any sport,” Overstake said. “It will inspire anyone who dreams of becoming a champion.” Continue reading
