To Grandmother’s House We Go, with ‘Maggie’ on Audio

newaudioforchristmas2016

Never underestimate the power of a grandparent’s presence in the life of a grandchild, especially when they need someone to confide in.

grandmotherteenIn her darkest hour, Maggie walks the well-worn footpath to Grandma’s old farmhouse next door. A great listener, Grandma nods. Yes, life is hard sometimes, and, yes it’s true, we don’t always know why bad things happen. “But I’m knowing the highest and best for you,” Grandma says, inspiring Maggie to discover within herself the healing power of love, and of a great quest fulfilled.

At a time when so many stories for tweens and teens make the world seem hopeless, Maggie Vaults Over the Moon has been praised for its hopeful message. According to Kirkus Reviews, “[The] novel exudes sweetness… it feels as if it takes place in another era, as it lacks the dark edge seen in other popular YA [young adult] stories.”

Thank You for Voting! Maggie is the No. 1 rated Athlete Girl Book on Goodreads!

GRANITE BAY, CA. — One of the great thrills of authoring Maggie Vaults Over the Moon is sharing the book at vault clubs and camps around the world.

Last month, we visited the Snake Pit pole vault facility in Granite Bay, CA.

There I met masters champions Michael Hoffderffer, Doug Osland and other seniors who are still vaulting over the moon! They invited me to jump with them and coached me to a new personal record (for age 62)!

I came away with a personal record, a spiffy Snake Pit tee-shirt, a bunch of new friends, and a deep appreciation for a unique sport that connects and keeps us #GrowingBolder together. Thanks guys! We’ll see you again soon, over the moon!

With advancements in smartphone technology, the audiobook industry is growing exponentially, as more and more people are downloading books to their phones and listening as they travel. For teen athlete Katie Wright and her mom, Jennifer, the 31-mile stretch of highway between Prospect, Kentucky and Katie’s pole-vault practices at Fuzion Athletics in Shelbyville went by waaay too soon as they listened to Tavia Gilbert perform Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.

Katie and Jennifer Wright enjoyed Maggie on audiobook.

“Since my daughter was very little one of my favorite parenting memories was reading to her. We still love to share books together but sometimes struggle to find the time,” mom said. “We discovered on the long drive to practice how great it is to listen to an audiobook together.

“Gilbert’s narration really drew us into the story and characters!” Jennifer adds in her review. “Often times coming home we would stay in the car a few more minutes just to continue listening to the story. While we loved the happy ending, we were sad that the story ended and we no longer shared part of our day with Maggie together.”

Maggie Vaults Over the Moon is the magical story of Maggie Steele, a gritty farm girl who rebounds after tragedy, reaching high achevement as a pole-vaulter. Kirkus Reviews calls it, “A fine young adult novel about perseverance in sports and in life.”

It was a star-spangled day for NAME.

It was a high-flying day for Andrianna “Andy” Jacobs, who won the Youth Division with a vault of 13’4.25″, qualifying her for the USA Junior Nationals. While unofficial, the vault surpassed the Minnesota state record for high school girls. (Photos by Daniel Schraith.)

Paddle-wheels and pole-vaulters shared the Mighty Mississippi on July 4th at the LaCrosse River Vault. Adding to the excitement at the 6th annual event was the fact that it was the very first time that a pole-vault competition had ever been held on a river barge.

Cheering the vaulters was Maggie Steele, heroine of Maggie Vaults Over the Moon.
