COLUMBIA, SC – Sydney Hickert was soaring with Maggie at Rusty Shealy Pole Vault Camp this past week.
Sydney helped put the campaign over the top, and to honor her contribution, Shealy Athletics received a giant Maggie banner, and she and her fellow campers received copies of the novel as Maggie Awards.
Hickert, who attends Cane Bay High School, is following the same trajectory of other vaulters Shealy has coached to glory, including Arkansas University’s Sandi Morris, who finished 2nd at the recent 2014 USATF Outdoor Nationals (14-11).
Sydney placed fourth at Class AAAA state championships this season with a vault of 11-0, and by all accounts, she has the same drive and determination as heroine Maggie Steele, the gritty Kansas farm girl who, with hard work, dedication and great coaching, soars to new heights as a pole-vaulter.
“Shealy Athletics is the kind of place where Maggie would feel right at home,” said author Grant Overstake. “It’s a positive place where vaulters like Sydney learn to soar over the moon, to the stars.”
Maggie Vaults Over the Moon will be performed this summer by Tavia Gilbert, a six-time Audie Award Finalist and multiple Earphones and Parent’s Choice Award-winner.
Library Journal said this highly-acclaimed actress is “as close as you can get to a full cast narration with a solo voice.” She has narrated more than 250 multi-cast and single-voice audiobooks.
“Having Maggie in audio form will be a tremendous tool for our athletes,” Shealy said. “Many travel two to three hours each way for a two hour practice. This will be a great opportunity to listen to the audio version on practice days, preparing them mentally as they embark on their own epic quests. I’m excited and eager to hear it myself.”
Rusty Shealy Pole Vault Camp is the place where athletes from the Southeastern United States and around the nation receive “The Unfair Advantage!” in their quest for greatness. In addition to plenty of pole-vaulting, Sydney and her fellow campers had loads of fun at Rusty Shealy Pole Vault Camp.
