WICHITA, Kan. — More than 4,000 athletes will compete in the nation’s largest track meet this Friday and Saturday — the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships.
Cheering them will be more than 25,000 fans at Wichita’s Cessna Stadium, including storybook State Champion, Maggie Steele, the gutsy pole-vaulting farm girl from Grain Valley, Kan.
To celebrate the biggest event on the track and field calendar, special autographed copies of the novel Maggie Vaults Over the Moon will be on sale at Wichita’s premier independent bookstore, Watermark Books and Cafe, located just a few miles from the stadium at 4701 East Douglas (corner of Douglas and Oliver).
In addition, some lucky person will win the drawing for a giant-sized Maggie Vaults Over the Moon cover poster!
“We’re thrilled that Watermark Books is making a special effort to welcome the very best track and field fans anywhere,” said author Grant Overstake. “You don’t have to purchase a copy of Maggie to enter the poster drawing, but we hope you will!”
Maggie Vaults Over the Moon is a tribute to the tens of thousands of real-life Kansas athletes who’ve competed in the Kansas State Meet over the past century.
The novel was featured in the May 2013 issue of the Kansas State High School Activities Journal, with an endorsement from the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA).
“Maggie’s story is dedicated to each and every one of us who’ve experienced the thrill of this event,” Overstake adds. “Her quest will inspire anyone who dreams of becoming a champion.”
The bookstore will be open from 8 am to 8 pm on Friday, and from 8 am to 5 pm Saturday. The poster winner will be selected at random and notified by phone or email on Monday, June 2, 2014.
