Hope for the Holidays: The Healing Message of ‘Maggie Vaults Over the Moon’

Christmas cheer may be an elusive emotion for some teens and grownups this holiday season. Tidings of comfort and joy can ring hollow for those who’ve suffered a recent tragedy, such as the loss of a loved one in their lives.

Maggie Vaults Over the Moon is a new novel that retells the story of Maggie Steele, a farm girl from tiny Grain Valley, Kansas, who suffers a major tragedy and then pours her broken heart into pole-vaulting.  HighResFrontCoverWritten by Grant Overstake, the story chronicles Maggie’s difficult, painful rise to a brighter, hopeful future.

Kirkus Reviews calls Maggie, “A fine YA [young adult] novel about perseverance in sports and in life… Its themes will resonate with anyone who has suffered profound loss.”

The struggle to overcome is the driving force in  Maggie Vaults Over the Moon. To help make the story a true source of hope and healing, the author asked a hospital chaplain and pastor to provide the character Grandma with just the right words help Maggie through the grief process.

According to the Rev. Tim Lytle, Maggie’s story is “the story of all of us.” Continue Reading →

Contest Winner Sage Tichenor Matches Maggie’s ‘DETERMINATION’ for Pole-Vaulting

DETERMINATION!

That’s the word Sage Tichenor submitted to describe the “essential mental ingredient” that helps heroine Maggie Steele vault over the moon. Her entry was selected as the best one-word answer in our “Free T-Shirt Contest” (drawn from a bunch of great submissions).

The word DETERMINATION is a perfect choice because it describes our contest winner herself. The junior at Topeka (Kan.) Seaman High School has been vaulting for just a few years now. And just like Maggie, Sage is DETERMINED to be the best she can be.

Like Maggie, Sage is determined to be the best vaulter she can be!

“So far my PR is eight foot three, but I’m hoping to improve so much more and continue to vault,” Sage said. “Pole-vaulting has become one of the most important things in my life. I love how challenging it is!”

With DETERMINATION, we know Sage will soon be vaulting over the moon!

(Instead of the free Maggie T-Shirt, Sage has selected to give herself the gift of an autographed copy of Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, just in time for Christmas. Order your gift copies of Maggie today!)
